Egidija Medekšaitė composes mostly chamber music, often combining acoustic and electronic sound. One of the most important underlying principles in her work is strict organization of all parameters of music, based on some predefined patterns (progressions of pitches or durations, different numerological prodecures, etc). However, Medekšaitė’s music sounds more as a meditative flow than mathematically built structures.

Medekšaitė’s music was performed by Quatuor Bozzini (Canada), Apartment House (UK), Ruthless Jabiru (UK), Lithuanian National Symphony orchestra (Lithuania), chamber choir "Jauna muzika" (Lithuania), Stuttgart Vocal Ensemble (Germany), string quartet "The Smith quartet" (UK), string quartet "Chordos" (Lithuania), cellist Anton Lukoszevieze (UK), ensemble "Oneplusone" (Latvia), bassoon quartet "Vilniaus fagotynas" (Lithuania), orkest de Volhardong (Netherlands), Šv. Vytautas Germanavičius

Vytautas Germanavičius (b. 1969) is a Lithuanian composer who studied in Vilnius, Dartington, San Francisco, and Helsinki. He holds a DMA in Composition from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater (2022), and MFA in Electronic Music from Mills College (2005, Fulbright Scholarship, USA).

A notable variety of influences – new romanticism, minimalism, and microtonality has been regarded as a special feature of Germanavicius’s music. The composer uses varied means of musical expression, with particular attention to the timbral spectrum of sound. “It is no longer the rhythm that is explored, but the colour of the sound; not the structure, but the texture. For the composer, architectural rigidity or software visualization has become redundant. It is not only a musical language that has been mastered but also the musical thought for which the abstraction of the sound as such is sufficient” by Vita Gruodytė, musicologist.

Vytautas recently defended his artistic doctorate research project based on Lithuanian folk songs and instrumental music. He was granted an annual Scholarship for his study results from the Research Council of Lithuania (2022). His research articles were presented in scientific journals and international conferences in Lithuania, Ukraine, Taiwan, and Austria.

In 2016, Vytautas was granted the Lithuanian Composers’ Union annual competition award for the Best Composition of the Year for bass saxophone and orchestra Underwater Geometry.

Vytautas was a recipient of the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursary for residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada, 2000), he was a resident at Visby International Composers Center (Sweden, 2001), Nida Arts Colony (2016), and Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, 2019).

The composer's music has been widely performed by prominent orchestras, ensembles and soloists in many international contemporary music festivals throughout Europe, North America and Asia – ISCM World New Music Days (Vancouver, Vilnius, Stuttgart, Zagreb, Hong Kong, Yokohama); Gaudeamus Music Week; Vancouver New Music; Other-Minds (USA); Est-Ouest (France); Italian Composers Forum; L’art pour L’Aar (Switzerland); Foro International De Musica Nueva (Mexico); European Lead Forum (Berlin); Kyiv Music Fest, 2D2N of New Music (Odessa); Music of Friends (Moscow), Europe-Asia Festivals (Kazan); Musicacoustica (Beijing); Asia-Europe  (Vietnam); Gaida; Thomas Mann festival among others.

Germanaviciuss music has been commissioned by the Lithuanian Council for Culture, Festivals of Contemporary Music, performing ensembles in Lithuania and abroad.

Mr. Vytautas Germanavičius, currently holds the position of the Chairman of the Lithuanian Composers Union Music Foundation and Vice-Chairman of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) Lithuanian Section.
