He studied cello performance at Tokyo University of the Arts under the tutelages of Fumiaki Kono, Nobuko Yamazaki and Hidemi Suzuki. Currently he is the Principal Cellist for Geidai
Philharmonia Orchestra Tokyo and Chiba Symphony Orchestra.
Yamazawa has garnered major prizes to this date, including: 1st Prize at “Kyogaku XI,” the 11th Contemporary Music Performance Competition (2014); the 26th Asahi Contemporary Music Award
(2014); the 1st Prize at the Akiyoshidai Music Competition (2013), and; the 3rd Prize at the VIVAHALL Cello Competition (2012).
